Administration of Kerch signed a Treaty of friendship, mutual assistance and cooperation with the Italian province of Reggio di Calabria, reports TASS. The relevant documents were signed by the Chairman of the Kerch city Council Larissa Serbulo and President of the province Giuseppe Raffa. The agreement provides for the development of business and cultural relations.

“Our mission took place in two stages. We met with representatives of the government of Crimea in Simferopol, which discussed issues of economic cooperation, mainly in the field of agriculture and fisheries,” said Raffa.

According to him, the choice of Kerch as the sister city was caused by a number of circumstances. “And Reggio di Calabria, and Kerch ports on the coast, we have a lot in common. In addition, we in Calabria will never forget that Russian sailors came to help the people of Reggio Calabria and Messina after the earthquake of 1908,” he told Italian politician. Raffa said that recognizes the results of the Crimean referendum on reunification with Russia, and condemns the imposition of sanctions that “the most negative impact on our economic relations”.

Following the meeting with the Italian delegation, it was decided to establish a working group that will develop proposals for key areas of cooperation.

Kerch is the primary residence of the Italian Diaspora Peninsula, the number of which is up to four hundred people. Italians are among the indigenous peoples of Crimea, exposed in the Soviet era repression. Previously on the desire to establish a sister relationship with the Kerch stated by representatives of the Italian cities, Ardea and jib.

Reggio di Calabria is a province in South-West Italy. Its population exceeds 186 thousand people. The main sectors of the economy – tourism, wine industry, the fishing industry.
